Designed and built in 1888 by Tom and Willy Dunn, the 18 hole Biarritz
Le Phare golf course is the second oldest course on the continent, after Pau Billere, 100
kilometers east of Biarritz. Situated in the centre of Biarritz, le Phare is one of 10
golf courses in the area within a radius of a half hour's drive.
Due to the course being on the Atlantic coast, the climate is particularly mild during winter and not too hot during summer. Biarritz Le Phare offers excellent playing conditions, superb greens and a very playable course which is open all year round.
The par 69 course of 18 holes is set over a distance of 5376m.
Each year many of the big names in the international professional golf circuit (some of whom, like José-Maria Olazabal in 1983, were once players in the Biarritz Cup as amateurs), return regularly to play at le Phare.
